Doug Phillips

Doug focuses his practice on estate and tax planning, bringing over 33 years of experience in helping clients provide for their families, minimize tax liability, and achieve long-term objectives through the strategic use of trusts, gifts, and sales.

A natural problem-solver with strong people skills and the drive to deliver solutions at an affordable price, Doug partners with clients to develop a comprehensive plan that provides substantial tax advantages. Doug continues to maintain a strong estate and trust administration practice as well, advising executors and trustees in all aspects of probate and trust management.  Additionally, Doug’s firm grasp of trust and tax law allows him to be a trusted counselor and advisor to small business owners when confronted with succession opportunities.

Prior to starting Phillips Estate Law, Doug worked in the Seattle and Bellevue offices of the law firm, Bogle & Gates, one of the largest law firms in the region at the time. Subsequently, Doug chaired the estate planning practice group at Inslee, Best, Doezie & Ryder, P.S., a well known Bellevue law firm. Doug is a regular speaker on estate planning and tax issues at continuing legal education seminars, and has presented estate planning seminars at local companies such as Boeing and Weyerhauser.

Doug received his J.D. from the University of Washington with Moot Court Honors and his B.A. in Economics from Willamette University, also with honors.

When not practicing law, Doug enjoys spending time with his wife and any one of his four children and three grandchildren, hiking, or skiing at Steven’s Pass.

Aaron Phillips

Aaron Phillips joined Phillips Estate Law as an associate attorney in the autumn of 2013. Prior to sitting for the Washington State Bar Exam, Aaron received his J.D. from the University of Washington and his B.A. in English from Pepperdine University.

While at law school, Aaron focused primarily on tax issues, including spending time as a student attorney in the law school's low income tax assistance clinic and travelling to rural Alaska to prepare income tax returns for native Alaskans.

On the rare occasions Doug allows him to leave the office, Aaron enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children, being outside, and restoring old homes.
